EXECUTIVE ACQUISITIONS EDITOR FOR ECONOMICS, FINANCE, AND BUSINESS, MIT Press, to commission and develop twenty-five new books each year with a focus on textbooks, trade titles, and research monographs that will contribute sustaining annual revenue to the Press and significantly advance the teaching, learning, and public understanding of essential topics in the fields of economics, finance, and business. Will bring publishing experience and knowledge to the acquisition and development of these books, which may include revised editions of classic textbooks, original texts, and high-impact trade books, along with field-defining monographs; establish robust relationships with MIT faculty members and wider networks of advisors and prospective authors; bring a strong network of contacts from previous professional experience; conduct market research to identify specific developments and teaching needs; incentivize innovative academics to explain their work to general readers or to write books to meet the needs of upper-level undergraduates and graduate students at leading educational institutions including MIT; and work with authors to shape projects for the production process and project manage them through to publication.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in a related field; at least eight years’ journalistic or editorial experience; strong track record of book acquisitions, including textbooks, in economics or a related field; excellent negotiation and written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of publishing contracts and terms and of the higher education community; ability to work with academic authors; discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues; solid knowledge of the publishing industry and project development and management; and ability to partner and collaborate with academic authors and advisors.  PREFERRED:  advanced degree in economics, finance, business, or related field; and knowledge of LaTeX.  Job #21922-10
