Position Description

Bloomsburg University's Department of Exceptionality Programs ASL/English Interpreting Program seeks applicants for temporary faculty positions for ASL/English Interpreting Coursework (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise.
The Department of Exceptionality Programs houses three programs:   Special Education (including student teacher supervision), Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Dual Deaf Education (PK-12) / Early Childhood Education (PK-4), and ASL/English Interpreting.   


Examples of Duties

Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach interpreting courses in the ASL/English Interpreting Program.
Possible course(s) may include: ASLTERP 335 Translation, ASLTERP 365 Consecutive Interpreting, ASLTERP 420 Simultaneous Interpreting, ASLTERP 450 Interactive Interpreting, ASLTERP 460 Practicum Seminar, or ASLTERP 480 Practicum. 


Qualifying Experience / Education

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Education requirement: A Master’s Degree in Deaf Education, ASL Linguistics, ASL/English Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or in a related field.
  • Academic specialization, prior teaching experience, and/or prior professional experience relevant to course assignment needs of the department at the time of the appointment.
  • Documentation of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Certification
 
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who have 
  • Relevant teaching, supervisory, or interpreting experience that meet program area needs 
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Documented ASL experience
  • American Sign Language Teacher’s Certification

Finalist(s) for these positions must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process as judged by the department faculty.
 
Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
 
Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and criminal background.
