The University of Miami’s Frost School of Music is a dynamic and innovative school with the vision to become one of the leading presenting arts organizations in Greater Miami. The Marketing Specialist, Events joins a passionate team working on shaping this vision, and primary responsibilities include developing and managing the Events Department’s marketing strategies and campaigns. Throughout the year, the school’s events season includes approximately twenty-five Frost Music Live! Signature Series concerts and lectures, our annual Winter Wonderful gala, fundraisers, and other events as assigned by the Dean of the Frost School of Music and the Director of Events.

The Marketing Specialist, Events is a creative and detail-oriented individual who thinks outside the box, has stellar graphic design skills, loves pitching stories, is passionate about social media, and thrives collaborating with others. This position reports directly to the Director of Events and works closely with various departments across the University of Miami to ensure each assigned event has a well-structured marketing campaign.

Salary Range

  • $50K- $55K

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing – 50%

  • Works with the Director of Events to develop advertising campaigns to promote the Frost Music Live! Signature Series concerts and lectures, our annual Winter Wonderful gala, and other events as assigned.
  • Creates post-concert marketing reports that evaluate the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of each campaign by tracking KPIs and ROIs. 
  • Proofreads and ensures Frost School of Music event ads and graphics meet the branding guidelines established by the school’s Communications and Marketing Department and UM Communications.
  • Ad Buys
    • Researches and implements the Events Department’s ad buys strategy, tracking expenses on Workday and assisting the Director of Events with marketing budgets.
    • Manages artwork and ad buy deadlines.
    • Works with the Administrative Assistant to pay for all ad buys.
  • Social Media and Online Advertising
    • Drafts and implements strategic marketing campaigns across all social media and online platforms to promote upcoming concerts.
    • Manages and places all social media and digital ad buys.
    • Attends events and concerts as directed to collect photos and videos for PR and marketing purposes.
  • Email and Mail campaigns
    • Creates and schedules e-blasts.
    • Works with the Director of Events to create direct mail campaigns.
  • Frost Music Live and Winter Wonderful Website
    • Updates homepage (www.FrostMusicLive.com, www.winterwonderful.com).
    • Coordinates edits and/or event detail changes with Box Officer Manager, who is the website calendar editor.
    • Sets up Bitly links for event pages and UTMs.
    • Conducts regular website audits.
  • Annual Season Brochure
    • Manages project from concept to finalized product at the direction of the Director of Events.
    • Works with graphic designers, printing and mailing vendors, and writers.
    • Gathers copy, communicating with Frost School of Music faculty and working with the Box Office Manager to collect event descriptions. 
    • Collects and organizes photos for the brochure, working with the Director of Production to schedule any needed photo-shoots for faculty and ensembles.
  • Assists at promotional events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Graphic Design and Help with Video Editing – 40%

  • Creates campaign concepts and graphics for each ad.
  • Picks out language, photos, layout examples based on ad specs and market research.
  • Researches the target audience for each ad campaign.
  • Edits promotional videos for social media and YouTube ads.

Financial and Office Management – 10%

  • Assists with the upkeep of Frost Music Live marketing budgets.
  • Oversees inventory and ordering of branded promotional items.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or related field with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Music/Theater industry experience is a plus! Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of marketing, advertising, social media and mass communication to leverage a multi-pronged approach to content delivery required.
  • Strong understanding of marketing tactics, particularly social media and other online advertising.
  • Experience in the writing and print production of marketing collateral such as brochures, flyers, trifold, etc.
  • Knowledge of video production preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and verbal skills. Copywriting and copy-editing skills are strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and flexibility to change scope or shift projects as necessary.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task high volumes of work and to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Detail-oriented with a high accuracy level.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and their Google Suite equivalents (Google docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides); strong computer, Internet and social media skills.
  • Proficient with Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro software; knowledge about the entire Adobe Suite preferred.
