Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Chancellor is vested with complete authority, subject to the direction of the President of the UNC System. The Chancellor is responsible for carrying out policies of two governing boards: the UNC System’s Board of Governors and the University’s Board of Trustees. It is also the responsibility of the Chancellor to make recommendations to the System President regarding academic program development, personnel matters (subject to policies of the Governors and Trustees), and budget development. The Chancellor maintains wide discretion in decision-making with regard to student affairs (subject to the policies of the governing boards) and other aspects of the administration of the University, as provided under the General Statutes of North Carolina and the UNC Code.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director for Chancellor and Special Events, the Events Manager will collaborate with members of the Special Events team to assist in event planning and execution for the Chancellor’s Office and for University-wide events as assigned. Examples of events this position organizes include Spring Commencement, the Honorary Degree Ceremony, PhD Hooding, Board of Trustees meetings, Chancellor Office luncheons/dinners, etc. This position will require night and weekend availability, based on the events schedule.
Responsibilities will include:
Administrative support – RSVP and budget tracking, creating events materials, other duties as assigned.
Logistical support – Coordination of transportation, catering, A/V equipment, and other event essentials.
Communication and correspondence with stakeholders – Act as point of contact for vendors, clients, and event participants, assist in managing attendee inquiries.
On-site event support – Assist with attendee registration, set-up and break-down of events, addressing on-site challenges, etc.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong organizational and multitasking skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Enthusiastic, adaptable, and willing to take on diverse responsibilities.
Reliable transportation to events is required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficiency in event management software.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to stand for long periods of time and life items upwards of 30-50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
