Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Position requires general knowledge of computer systems, audio-visual equipment and the aptitude for learning how to operate unfamiliar computer and electronic equipment.

Strong customer service skills and professional demeanor in person and on the phone. Must enjoy working with the public, be pleasant and diplomatic, and have effective communication skills.

Organization and attention to detail is necessary.

Ability to follow instructions, work independently, exercise sound independent judgement, and communicate directions clearly to other students.

Basic computer knowledge and ability to compile statistical information.

Knowledge of event structures helpful.

Must be completely dependable and able to work assigned hours, with weekend and evening hours required.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work in high, tight spaces, and maneuver small flights of stairs.

Required Education or Training:

High School Diploma.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:

A) Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or

B) Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and

C) Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or is a newly enrolled student.


Salary Information:

This is a Student Assistant 2 position with a minimum pay of $14.96 per hour.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.

Event Support Assistants are expected to have excellent customer services skills; to be able to be courteous, helpful, and friendly at all times as they interact with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Familiarity with basic troubleshooting of electronic equipment and software, independent judgement, decision-making, and the ability to direct and lead other students is also expected.

Front of House tasks include: Ticket sales and cash handling procedures. Cash drawer reconciliation and providing statistical information. Assisting patrons with navigating the venue and answering basic questions about the Division of Performing and Fine Arts Events. Supervision and orientation of ushers. Coordination with event staff and creatives. Careful attendance tracking through ticket stubs. Enforcement of general theater policies, including seating policies. Maintaining a clean and secure house and lobby.

Behind the Scenes tasks include: Operating sounds, lighting, recording, and video equipment. Videotaping events for the Division of Performing and Fine Arts. Supervising student volunteers in the basic operations of sound, lighting, recording, video equipment and event assistance.

Additionally, Event Support Assistants are responsible for assisting the Videography & Technical Support Specialist with Fine Arts projects and audio/visual needs, including inspecting, delivering, picking up, and level one troubleshooting of audio/visual equipment for classroom use.

This position primarily works during productions which often take place on evenings and weekends. As a result there may be pay periods when the event support assistant has no hours worked.
