The Event Services Student Assistant assists with the setup, maintenance, breakdown, check-out, check-in, and operation of Event Services equipment.  This position uses sound, video, staging, and computer-based multimedia systems to support event needs and assist departments, administrative offices, student organizations, community groups, and other customers as needed. Evening, weekend, and early hours occur often, and this position will be scheduled based on the event schedule.

Set up, break down, and operate audiovisual equipment and presentation software for events. Meet with the customer at the start of their event, ensuring all technology is working and their presentation or devices are functioning correctly. Work with a team to set up event equipment, including tents, lighting, truss, tables, chairs, etc. to work order specifications. Work is physical and exposed to all weather conditions. Must be able to regularly lift 25-50 lbs and occasionally lift 50-100 lbs. Event Services Student Assistants will regularly be assigned to weekend or evening events. Other duties as assigned.

Experience must include the use of non-complex computers. Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. Must be able to work with all division personnel in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner. Must be able to pass golf cart and vehicle driving tests. Strong knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and presentation equipment required. Working knowledge of all audio/video fields: sound, lights, projection, technological devices, etc. is preferred. Able to work a varied schedule inclusive of nights, mornings, and weekends.

Salary is commensurate with experience and education.

All selected candidates are required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation to include reference checks and verification of academic credentials (if applicable). Other additional requirements may be required based upon specific position duties: 

  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities;
  •  Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle.

 For Faculty Hires : Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.
