ROLE of the POSITION

This position exists to assist with the management of all event-related operations for events held within the Student Union and SUES-managed facilities. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Supervise the setup, operation, and strike of event equipment such as tables, chairs, dance floors, trash cans, and other equipment. Monitor daily events, client needs, and provide on-site event assistance as needed. Conduct venue walkthroughs and ensuring equipment is set-up and/or stored properly and organized. Participate in pre-event meetings as scheduled with Conference and Event Coordinators. Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate student staff team. Assist Event Operations Manager with coordinating SUES efforts for events outside of the Student Union, particularly green spaces, equipment loans and other venues on the UNLV campus.  Ensure the safety and accessibility of all events managed by SUES. Regularly organize student staff meetings with a focus on updates and achieving our learning outcomes. Manage and maintain inventory with specific focus towards the management of set-up equipment.

Making recommendations to the Event Operations Manager for equipment maintenance and purchases. Implement SUES policies and procedures. Provide 24 hour on-call emergency response as it relates to events. Serve as back-up supervisor for the remaining event operations student staff in the absence of the Event Operations Manager and Event Technology Coordinator Student Union & Event Services and UNLV Campus Life are firmly committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is diverse, inclusive and welcoming for all people. QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university (Masters Preferred) and a minimum of 18 months post bachelor's experience full-time and/or graduate assistant-ship required (Related Managerial experience Preferred) in area of event operations, audio/visual, event programming or conferences at an institution of higher education required. This position will require evening and weekend work. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with event setup equipment (tables, chairs, stages, trussing, etc.) usage issues,
  • Maintenance requirements, equipment purchasing, inventory management, risk management, and staff training
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts
  • Willingness to facilitate open and effective communication, cooperation and teamwork within and outside of one's own team
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with student and professional staff, Division colleagues, and the University community
  • Demonstrate willingness to examine events and event set-ups from an equity and inclusion lens so that all may utilize facilities and participate in events
  • Ability to create an environment of understanding and acceptance as well as challenge organizational policies and practices that may be exclusionary
  • Ability to plan, organize and schedule in an efficient, productive manner and target projects or initiatives that require special attention
  • Ability to focus on key tasks when faced with limited time and/or resources
  • Assist in designing, implementing, and facilitating training, leadership, customer service, and personal development retreats, workshops, and programs for student staff
  • Assist in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes for student staff in area
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment in which the parameters may change daily and to adjust behavior to meet the needs of different people and situations
  • Demonstrate success following through on commitments while incorporating courage, objectivity, trustworthiness, honesty, respect and fairness in daily actions
  • Ability and willingness to explore alternatives to existing products and services and identify opportunities to improve procedures and practices

SALARY RANGE

Salary range is $47,000-50,000 depending upon skills, education, and experience. Position is contingent upon funding.
