The Division of Student Success provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs and activities across departments, divisions, colleges, and administrative units. JOB SUMMARY

Works under the direction of higher-level events specialists and / or managers to learn professional aspects of event planning and production. Assists in planning and organizing internal and external business-related functions, symposiums, conferences, program events, banquets, and VIP briefings.

 

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $25.00 / Hourly.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

Benefits Level Eligibility: This position is not eligible for benefits

Schedule Information:

  • Part-time, Variable

JOB DUTIES

80% - Event Staffing

  • Assist patrons at Quarry Amphitheater special events by performing duties such as:
  • Collecting and scanning admission tickets and passes
  • Ushering guests
  • Assist with parking operations and scanning parking permits
  • Assist with box office operations
  • Assist with catering and concessions
  • Assist with merchandising and work with vendors .

20% - Event Operations

  • Assist with pre- and post-event operations such as conducting an inventory of supplies, set up, and clean up for events.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors' degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of concepts and principles of effective event planning and live production and public relations.
  • Written and interpersonal communications skills, including tact and political acumen, and skill in effectively representing the campus to its publics. Excellent written and verbal skills to effectively support team priorities.

  • Ability to complete simple tasks with established deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • With training, ability to use event systems such as ticket scanners, computers and computer software appropriate to work tasks.
  • Diplomatic skills sufficient to work with ethnically and culturally diverse populations in a number of capacities with professionalism and sensitivity and to maintain cooperative working relationships with the public and the university community.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations necessary for performing financial support and record keeping.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a event-producing environment with an emphasis on effectiveness, professionalism, tact and integrity.
  • Basic knowledge of the campus, its mission, vision, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to walk multiple nightly rounds on uneven surfaces and repeatedly climb stairs.
  • Ability to perform work in a rugged physical environment and inclement weather with challenging infrastructure requirements.
  • Ability to work in conditions of variable temperature/weather with possible exposure to strong, unpleasant odors, high levels of noise and vibrations, and exposure to dust and allergens.
  • Ability to sustain exposure to dusty, noisy environments and inclement weather as necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements necessary to move light to moderate objects up to 60 lbs., with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work on-call.
  • Ability to work overtime including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays to meet operational needs, and work an alternate work schedule shift as required.
