The Center for the Economics of Human Development (CEHD) brings together top-tier researchers to conduct and disseminate rigorous interdisciplinary research that identifies and explores the conditions under which people develop the skills necessary to thrive in society and achieve their fullest potential. CEHD’s research is guided by Nobel Laureate Professor James J. Heckman and includes a comprehensive array of interrelated projects and initiatives which promote a thorough empirical understanding of human flourishing. Unifying this research is an evolving idea that capacities and skills acquired over the lifecycle, starting at conception, transform many aspects of the life course at all stages, ranging from employment and earning prospects to overall health.


Job Summary
 

Under general guidance, the job performs a broad range of operational business activities relating to the design, planning, and execution of events and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake academic and outreach programs within CEHD initiatives (e.g., Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Working Group, Life Cycle Working Group, Heckman Equation, etc.) that promote the work of and engagement among CEHD’s community of researchers, advance research priorities, and cultivate philanthropy.
  • Oversee the full logistical lifecycle for small- and large-scale events (e.g., secure speaker(s), liaise with stakeholders, arrange travel and hotel, book space and catering, gather an audience, coordinate on-site delivery, prepare and reconcile budget, report post-event, etc.).   • Host academic visitors (e.g., faculty, scientists, graduate students, etc.) at CEHD for short-term collaborative stays. Must secure University appointments, oversee visit logistics (e.g., travel, hotel, visa, office space), and facilitate engagement with the local research community.
  • Develop a robust schedule of programs and cascade the calendar (including the date, time, and location, etc.) to key CEHD stakeholders.
  • Aid CEHD leadership in stewarding relationships with CEHD’s expansive network of affiliates as well as (potential) funders/donors.
  • Identify opportunities, within the scope of the role, for leadership to advance relationships and promote CEHD work and accomplishments.
  • Amplify new programs and resulting research developments (e.g., develop flyers, newsletters, one-pagers, event briefings, reports, booklets) at the University and peer institutions to inform key partners, research groups, and funders/donors of vanguard work and opportunities for engagement.
  • Develop, benchmark, and track metrics of different types to determine the effectiveness of specific events and related efforts (e.g., event/visit logs, attendance and engagement metrics.)
  • Build networks and form strategic partnerships through hosting programs at the University and peer institutions that bolster CEHD’s presence in the economic research community and advance fundraising priorities.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise as programs develop across virtual, hybrid, and in-person formats.
  • Plans and schedules events, programs, and outreach. Coordinates event-day logistics, and performs other routine assignments with guidance from others.
  • Assists with identification and resolution of event and program needs, including vendor selection and contract negotiation. Keeps track of all expenses, prepares reports on costs, using existing procedures to solve routine problems as they arise.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • Experience in a higher education environment.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • G Suite.
  • Mailchimp or similar platforms.
  • Social media (i.e. Facebook and Twitter).
  • Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of and interest in cutting-edge research on inequality and human development is a plus.
