Under the supervision of the Director - Campus Safety, Security and Risk Management, the Evening Security Officer is responsible for conducting proactive patrols and responding to calls for security-related needs. This position interacts with all staff, students, local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and other appropriate agencies on matters related to safety and security.  Provide security coverage during evening hours and weekends.   • Provide general evening and weekend security duties at Central Campus and other campus locations. This includes armed response, if qualified (e.g., responding to human threats), locking and unlocking doors, patrolling hallways and parking lots to identify potential issues, checking areas for unauthorized persons, following up on suspicious activities, assisting with disabled vehicles and lockouts, conducting investigations including preparation of reports, and supporting the student guard program. Serve as primary point of contact in the Director’s absence.
  • Assist in resolving operational issues, such as double-booked classrooms, classroom setups, logistical misunderstandings, or other minor concerns that may arise during shift.
  • Act as the first responder to incidents and emergencies. Maintain a working knowledge of the College’s Emergency Management Plan; establish command and implement ICS on any significant crime, emergency, or another serious incident, in accordance with NIMS/ICS training. May perform first aid and assist police, fire, EMS, and other responders. Act as liaison with local law enforcement agencies. Participate in debriefs and critiques to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a positive and courteous demeanor. Practice open dialogue and understanding, and communicate with others in an honest, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrate a high level of awareness, good judgment, and critical thinking skills in all aspects of the position.
  • Participate in training staff and students on emergency procedures, and assist with campus preparedness drills.
  • Maintain the door access, door key management system, and surveillance systems.
  • Maintain the College’s Sexual Offender Registry
  • Check for maintenance-related issues with the building and general campus safety and security. Elevate items to the maintenance team that need to be addressed.
  • Observe and report activities and incidents, providing for the security and safety of district property and personnel.
  • Preserve order and act to enforce College policies and directives.
  • Assist campus visitors, students, and staff as necessary.
  • Provide remote support for security and safety matters on other campus locations.
  • Serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.


  • Education & Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • One year of law enforcement or security experience.
  • Ability to work independently and to work without direct supervision.
  • Eligibility for a Wisconsin Concealed Carry weapon license.
  • Individuals who meet the Armed Officer credentials outlined below are preferred.
  •  

    Armed Officer Credentials must meet 1 of the following credentials:

    • Qualified active law enforcement officer that has sworn authority as defined by the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice, Training and Standards Bureau, or the federal Uniform Code of Military Justice; or
    • Is a "qualified retired law enforcement officer" who is supported by their home department to meet the requirements under the Federal Standard of HR218 the "Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act"; or
    • Is a certified and credentialed firearms instructor under the State of Wisconsin, Law Enforcement Standards District Board (LESB).
