Description of Work Unit

The Integrated Solid Waste Section (ISW) exists to provide a clean campus on which to study, work, and live. We remove solid waste from campus according to the ISW plan, which maximizes the reuse of campus waste through recycling and composting with landfilling as a last resort.

Position Summary

This position exists to efficiently and effectively collect and deliver recyclable material and operates the 64,000 GVW trash truck and a 41,360 GVW recycle truck. This position will also operate a 22,420 GVW rear-load truck to collect cardboard as needed for operators who are on leave.

This posting will be filling two positions, one shift is Monday – Friday (with occasional weekends required) with hours being 5:00 am -1:30 pm and a Tuesday – Saturday shift with hours being 5:00 am – 1:30 pm. Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience driving heavy equipment which requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in order to operate.
  • Possession of a current valid State of Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.

The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:

  • Experience driving CDL class vehicle in a heavy pedestrian traffic environment and constricted spaces.
  • Completed training in hazardous and/or Universal Waste management and handling.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Safety-minded.
  • Ability to learn and follow DOT guidelines and universal hazardous waste regulations.
