Job Description

The Sidney Poitier New American Film School seeks to hire an Equipment Operations Coordinator to assist in the operation of the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center’s equipment room. This position is responsible for managing the overall workflow/functionality of the equipment room and all production equipment owned and managed by the Film School. The Equipment Operations Coordinator will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to ensure all equipment is accounted for, checked out efficiently, handled properly, and updated as needed.

Salary Range

$45,000 - $55,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Maintains the upkeep of film production equipment, including cost estimates for repairs, losses, and oversees film equipment inventory and check-out.
  • Works with faculty to assess needs for new equipment and procures new equipment.
  • Recruits student worker staff for film equipment checkout and post production facilities.
  • Creates and monitors student worker staff work schedules and delegates tasks for student staff.
  • Oversees the master production spreadsheet that includes equipment needs for student classes and productions.
  • Monitors assigned budgets relating to film production and postproduction facilities.
  • Maintains purchase card account and reconciles purchases related to departmental expenditures and maintains spreadsheets with running budgets.
  • Stays abreast of new technology and current trends applicable to equipment technology.
  • Serves as a liaison to outside vendors and information technology support to stay up to date on software trends and technologies.
  • Schedules and provides general oversight of the sound stages.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues pertaining to area of assignment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student worker supervisory practices and principles.
  • Experience in coordinating and prioritizing work and activities of self and others.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in managing, coaching, and scheduling student workers.
  • Experience with inventory softwares such as WebCheckout. 

Working Environment

  • The Equipment Operations Coordinator will work primarily out of the equipment room at the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center in Downtown Mesa. 
  • Some travel to other ASU campuses may also be required.
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
