Position Overview
This position is responsible for providing provide individual counseling, academic advising, personal development and enrichment activities to income eligible, first generation, and/or underrepresented students.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Monitor individual Academic Progress of assigned ETS students
2. Assists with application screening and selection process for applicants and incoming students.
3. Assists in monitoring progress towards achievement of objectives, managing and documenting service directly.
4. Assist with college planning (selection, application, writing letters of recommendation, etc.).
5. Follow up with students who encounter problems that affect retention or performance.
6. Provide assigned students individual, personal, career, and academic counseling.
7. Generate student evaluation reports.
8. Facilitate services and assist in coordinating the Pre-College Division summer program.
9. Assist with outreach to Alumni Associations to help administer and facilitate career exposure and internships (identification of internships, assistance with application for internships, assistance with selection of and persistence through internships).
10. Plan and teach classes and workshops on personal development, career development, college selection/ application, and test preparation.
11. Maintain appropriate records of student contacts and service delivery into EOP’s database.
12. Conduct workshops or other information sessions for potential applicant groups.
13. Assist and lead the training of college support staff.
14. Monitor and coordinate, tutoring and CHAMPS mentoring services.
15. Monitor and reconcile all program expenditures.
16. Assist in developing EOP-ETS Opening and Closing Meetings, Summer Camps, and MU TRIO Alumni Day.
17. Serve as liaison between schools, parents and students.
18. Assist in developing a comprehensive cultural enrichment program.
19. Responsible for creating and executing strategic engagement initiatives designed to provide tangible benefits to alumni of TRIO pre-college programs and meaningful mentoring experiences for personal and professional development, service, and networking.
20. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Requires two or more years of experience in counseling and direct service delivery to income eligible, first-generation, disabled, and/or underrepresented students, or with community groups that address issues affecting income eligible and minority student populations.
• Ability to work independently and to prioritize and execute multiple tasks consistent with assigned timeline;
• Able to work in a team environment;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal with diverse constituencies;
• Strong computer competency, to include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Access), and web-based and social media applications;
• Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality;
• Expressed commitment to and support of Project objectives.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Master’s Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education, Counseling, Guidance, Social Work, Education, or a related field;
•Experience working with low-income, students who will be the first in their families to attend college, candidates who have overcome and experience similar socio-economic backgrounds to the TRIO (Upward Bound/Talent Search ) student population will receive priority consideration.
