WORK UNIT
HDS Facilities provides building and support services for the department of Housing and Dining Services by ensuring a clean, safe and maintained living and learning environment for internal and external customers and University guests.

Position Summary
This announcement may be used to make multiple hires for current and future Environmental Service Technician, Mid-Shift vacancies. The eligible list may be periodically refreshed to maintain a current pool of interested candidates. Please note that you may be contacted for multiple vacancies throughout the use of this posting.
The Environmental Services Technicians provide a safe and clean living and learning environment for students, staff, and University guests by responding to the daily cleaning and maintenance of housing facilities with a focus on sustainability and customer services.
Note to Applicants: This position will work Monday – Friday, 12:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m..
Minimum Qualifications
Six months of full-time commercial cleaning experience.

Essential Job Duties


Job Duty Category Residential Living Custodial
Duty/Responsibility
• Keeps residential living, learning and dining environments clean and safe using “green” practices: environmentally safe chemicals, water conservation, recycling, conserving energy by turning off lights, etc. 
• Cleaning and/or disinfecting is performed for showers, toilets, walls, sinks, drains, vents, trash receptacles, ceilings, floors, mirrors, vanities, windows, appliances, furnishings and all hand hold surfaces. 
• Provides cleanup for blood borne pathogen situations not handled by EHS
• Clean hall and room carpet in residential living, learning and dining environments by vacuuming and shampooing. Clean hard surface floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping and refinishing. Remove gum. 
• Cleans around outside of building by picking up trash, sweeping, removing gum, washing sidewalks and snow/ice removal. May provide building opening and lockup procedures. 
• Dispose of trash/recyclables from internal/external receptacles. 
• Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

• Learn, apply and demonstrate how to enter personal living space with an awareness/enforcement of privacy and discretion for residents and guests, dealing with living habits, state of undress, shyness, etc. 
• Developing awareness/enforcement of student/guest behavior expectations, identifying “red flags” such as alcohol, drugs, fire alarms, unhealthy living conditions, etc. Remind the residents of personal safety (locking doors and windows, un­propping EXIT doors, etc.) 
• Have appropriate social interactions with residents and guests and be aware of their personal space, using appropriate communication and providing programmatic support. 
• Cleanup after construction projects 
• Provides seasonal “Hotel/Motel” summer conference services prepping residence hall rooms for guests including setups, linens, making beds, removing trash, and providing maid service. Turning the rooms over numerous times, often requiring overtime (after work hours or on scheduled days off) to ready rooms and public areas for the next conference group. 
• Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

• Performs minor maintenance including but not limited to replacing lamps, minor painting, carpet trimming and drain cleaning.

• Attend all meetings, committees and department sponsored functions. 
• Enter work time and leave requests into designated software systems. 
• Comply with Operations Management Handbook, University Departmental Procedures and Policies.
