Description of Work Unit
The mission of the Lory Student Center (LSC) is to serve as a student-centered organization at the
heart of campus, providing programs and services that create an inclusive community and inspire
active, engaged learning. As an auxiliary enterprise within the Division of Student Affairs, the LSC is a comprehensive student union recognized nationally as one of the leading university centers.
The LSC annual operating budget is approximately $40 million. Nearly 125 full-time career staff and
650 student and hourly staff serve approximately 24,000 people entering the facility on a daily basis and host approximately 13,000 annual events and meetings. Areas within the Lory Student Center include the CSU Bookstore; Campus Activities; Lory Dining Services; Marketing (Colab); Operations; Student Leadership, Involvement & Community Engagement (SLiCE); and an extensive array of business and service partners.

Position Summary
The Lory Student Center Environmental Services I team member (ES-1) is a full-time 12-month State Classified position in Operations, within the LSC and the Division of Student Affairs. The LSC Environmental Services team member provides support of visionary leadership for the department, empowering space for engagement and fostering a culture of belonging in support of multiple and intersecting identities of staff, customers, and guests. The LSC Environmental
Services team member executes the department strategic plans centering diversity, equity, and inclusion, upholds department values, provides clear communications, and assists with inventory management by exhibiting effective and efficient use of supplies and tools. This position develops relationships and collaborates with the Environmental Services team members, Leads, Supervisor, Manager, Director, and Executive Director and other LSC and CSU departments as needed.
As a member of the LSC Environmental Services team, team members contribute to the vision and leadership of the LSC Operations Department; implementation of LSC strategic department goals and policies and procedures for departmental tasks, service functions, and departmental operations with a focus on creating an inclusive environment. Team members will participate in personal and professional training centering on diversity, equity, and inclusion awareness, behaviors, skills, and competencies that facilitate personal and professional growth and development.
An LSC team member is also tasked with providing a safe and clean working and learning environment for students, staff, and University guests by responding to the daily cleaning and maintenance of Lory Student Center facilities with a focus on sustainability and customer services.
Note to Applicants: This posting will be filling two, second shift positions. The first position works Monday – Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 1:30 a.m., and the second works Saturday – Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. Both shifts are eligible for 7.5% shift differential pay.

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to teach peer Environmental Services Technicians how to perform tasks.

Essential Job Duties

Duty/Responsibility
  • Keep office, learning, and dining environments clean and safe using “green” practices: environmentally safe chemicals, water conservation, recycling, conserving energy by turning off lights, etc.
  • Cleaning and/or disinfecting of showers, toilets, walls, sinks, drains, vents, trash receptacles, ceilings, floors, mirrors, vanities, windows, appliances, furnishings, and all handhold surfaces.
  • Clean­up of blood-borne pathogen situations not handled by EHS.
  • Clean hallways and carpeted areas in offices, learning, and dining environments by vacuuming and shampooing. Clean hard surface floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, and refinishing.
  • Clean exterior areas of the building by picking up trash, sweeping, removing gum, washing sidewalks and snow/ice removal. Provide building opening and lock­-up procedures when necessary
  • Dispose of trash/recyclables from internal/external receptacles.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

  • Learn, apply and demonstrate how to enter office space with an awareness/enforcement of privacy and discretion for tenants. Develop awareness/enforcement of student/guest behavior expectations, identifying “red flags” such as alcohol, drugs, fire alarms, unhealthy conditions, etc. Remind the guests and tenants of Lory Student Center of personal safety (locking doors and windows, un­propping EXIT doors at the close of business, etc.)
  • Have appropriate social interactions with tenants and guests and be aware of their personal space, using appropriate communication, and providing programmatic support.
  • Clean­up after construction projects.
  • Provides support and assistance to services such as Lory Student Center Catering, Building Managers, and Setup Crew.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

Job Duty Category Continuous Maintenance and other responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
  • Perform minor maintenance including but not limited to replacing lamps, carpet trimming, and drain cleaning.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist and shadow maintenance staff.
  • Inspect and service Environmental Services equipment and machinery.
  • Check fire extinguishers and lights.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

  • Attend all required/recommended training/classes/seminars provided by Lory Student Center Environmental Services to accomplish the above, which include ethics, safety, diversity, communications, blood-borne pathogens, and any applicable training in providing the best customer service, etc.
  • Develop professional skills and communication to effectively interact with students, tenents, and guests.
  • Attend all meetings, committees, and department-sponsored functions.
  • Enter work time and leave requests into designated software systems.
  • Comply with Lory Student Center Operations Handbook, University Departmental Procedures, and Policies. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
