General Information
James Madison University’s Facilities Management Department is accepting applications for an Environmental Services Office Assistant. The shift is Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with an altered schedule during the summer.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administrative functions for the Landscape department.
  • Ensure that departmental and individual utilization of leave and compensatory time is in compliance with the established policies.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of evaluations, position descriptions, and desktop procedures manual.
  • Establish and manage standards for professional education and training for landscaping.
  • Manage vendor and contractors.
  • Administer and perform daily accounting and budget activities.
  • Assist with all duties associated with the recruitment, hiring, and separation of Environmental Services employees.
  • The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations. The employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
Qualifications
Required
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (AiM).
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, interpret, and audit financial and human resources data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, especially intermediate skills in Excel.
  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months.

Additional Considerations
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State regulations as they pertain to landscape maintenance.
  • Knowledge of recruitment procedures.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
