- Description
- The Inland Deserts Fisheries Program is looking for a highly motivated Environmental Scientist to work with a dedicated team of fisheries professionals to address environmental stressors and drought resiliency for native fishes and other aquatic species. Under the close supervision of the a Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the Environmental Scientist will be responsible for serving as the Inland Deserts Region's native and endemic fishes and aquatic resources drought resiliency scientist responsible for coordinating and implementing monitoring of environmental stressors for fisheries, native fishes, amphibians and other species with aquatic life histories. The incumbents conducts aquatic species stressors monitoring and rescues throughout their region. The incumbents will closely coordinate with Fisheries Branch, other regions and Department functions, as well as other affected and involved local, State, and Federal agencies. The positions coordinate field work activities, collects and organizes data, and prepares file reports and correspondence for Department Leadership and supports State, Federal agencies, and partner organizations.
- Qualifications
- Ability to lead and conduct biological resource work in the field, travel throughout the state, and work at odd or irregular hours. Ability to develop and make effective oral presentations before the public. Ability to use a personal computer and keyboard at least several hours a day, sitting most of the time, which may involve walking or standing for brief periods to access files, references, and other program materials. Attend meetings and internal and external training. In addition to working with Regional staff, the incumbent will interact with headquarters staff and members of the public via e-mail, telephone and through virtual meetings. Possession of valid driver’s license. Ability to drive for up to 8 hours. Ability to work outdoors for up to week-long trips in variable weather conditions, operate 4WD vehicles, wade in streams, and walk over uneven outdoor terrain carrying a 40 lb. backpack for up to 6 hours. Backpacking and remote camping may be required on occasion. Occasional overnight travel to reach some project locations will be required. This position requires you to be in the Murrieta office one day per week and two additional days per month with the option to telework the remainder of the time as duties allow and with supervisor approval.
