Job Description:

The Environmental Program High School Intern is a high school student who has participated in the Perspectives of Earth-Team Mentorship (PETM) training program in Spring 2024 at the McAuliffe Center. The intern uses effective ways to conduct research and design solutions to community environmental challenges by working with other high school students as part of a team with other Environmental Program High School Interns; and uses evidence-based arguments to promote actual changes that support the environmental well-being of the local target community. This intern is part of the McAuliffe Center's PETM program.

During the program, the Environmental Program High School Intern will:

  • Investigate environmental challenges with social implications for the local target community.
  • Choose an environmental challenge to address at a local level.
  • Collaborate with peers and STEM professionals on a team project.
  • Practice STEM skills and approaches used in a professional environment.
  • Develop an understanding of global environmental issues and how global needs relate to the local community.
  • Design a multimedia exhibit to explain the solution to the chosen environmental challenge.
  • Share findings with peers, mentors, teachers, family, and community members.
  • Communicate effectively with public officials about how to use the recommended solution in the community.

Examples of Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly team meetings
  • Research subject matter
  • Review collected data for quality and relevance
  • Follow protocols for data sharing
  • Report weekly to the program manager
  • Attend and participate in virtual and in-person meetings with subject matter experts


Requirements:

  • Applicant eligibility requires the high school student to have completed participation in Spring 2024 PETM program at the McAuliffe Center.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time, non-benefited, paid internship.  Rate is $15/hour.  There is a limited number of intern positions available.

Schedule and Time Commitment: Monday, June 24, 2024-Friday July 26, 2024. The regular schedule is Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm plus Friday, July 26, 2024 (hours TBD) for a total of 120 hours. Attendance during July is mandatory.
