What You Will Do Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking applicants for an archaeologist (Environmental Professional 2) to become a staff member in the Cultural Resources Program, which is part of the Laboratory’s diverse Environmental Protection and Compliance Division. The Cultural Resources program manages 2,000 archaeological sites spanning 10,000 years of human activity on the Pajarito Plateau, across approximately 40 square miles of Laboratory property. This unique landscape is characterized by deep canyons and mesas and is directly adjacent to Bandelier National Monument. The archaeologist will join a team of cultural resources specialists who support the Laboratory’s mission by ensuring compliance with federal and state cultural resources laws and regulations including Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The position requires the ability to work cooperatively with team members and to provide excellent customer service while helping projects avoid impacts to cultural resources. The archaeologist will conduct archaeological surveys, site recording, and monitoring, as well as review projects to assess potential impacts to cultural resources. The archaeologist will also participate in writing reports and other documents as needed, and may participate in outreach activities that promote cultural resources awareness internal and external to the Laboratory. The archaeologist will have the opportunity to participate in the development of long-term strategies for the management of cultural resources, and will be encouraged to collaborate with other archaeologists working in the region and in academia. | ||
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Additional Details Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
