Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
Environmental Planner/NEPA Specialist (Research Associate II) position is available with Colorado State University’s (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML to provide program management support, oversight and technical expertise for the Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) NEPA program. Position ensures compliance with the Air Force’s Environmental Impact Analysis Process (EIAP). The position is at the NEPA Center at AFCEC located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, and the candidate will apply technical expertise and knowledge to coordinate and support NEPA efforts for all Air Force NEPA actions.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biology, natural resources, environmental planning, or related field is required.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and abilities in environmental planning and NEPA project requirements.
  • Experience interpreting relevant environmental regulations and understanding NEPA processes and the NEPA framework.
  • Prior experience with management and oversight of NEPA projects and in the implementation of new and streamlined approaches to support NEPA compliance.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biology, natural resources, environmental planning or related field.
  • Familiarity with the Air Force codified NEPA Environmental Impact Analysis Process (EIAP) 32 CFR Part 989 is beneficial.
