Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of related experience in Linux-systems administration, networking, and/or cybersecurity roles.  Experience with scripting and/or programming in a Linux (or other UNIX-like) environment.  Work Experience may be substituted for education requirement.  Grade EI. Salary commensurate with experience.

  • Experience with cloud administration
  • Experience with administering, supporting, or programming high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
  • Data science experience
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
Position Description

Three Positions Available

This position is responsible for assisting with the configuration, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the university's centrally managed research computing infrastructure. Remote candidates will be considered, though an occasional presence on the University of Louisville campus will be required. The position includes activities which are subject to export control laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain complex academic research computing infrastructure, including supercomputing clusters, data storage, and networking. This includes on-campus datacenter-based systems as well as cloud environments.
  • Facilitate technical planning activities, providing analysis of implementation plans and their impact on budget, staffing, and existing infrastructure.
  • Provide research support by advising faculty, staff, and graduate students on effective use of academic and supercomputing technology for large and complex applications.
  • Investigate and lead implementation of new academic and computational research technologies with potential applications at the university.
  • Collaborate with the Cybersecurity Operations Team to develop, maintain, and monitor security controls that facilitate research activities while complying with regulations and other security requirements.
