Enterprise Data Analyst

Creighton University is looking for an Enterprise-wide Data Analytics individual.   This person will be working closely with a multi-disciplinary team who helps support the Enterprise-wide Data Analytics, Data Security, Data Modeling, and Data Warehousing of the University. Data Analyst responsibilities include conducting full lifecycle data analysis to include requirements, activities, and design. The Data Analyst will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across various departments working on data management and activities to understand requirements, research and analyze data, developing coding logic, creating visualizations, and delivering analytics solutions to drive change and university decision making.

  • Collects complex data from campus partners, including but not limited to finance, facilities, human resources, AIR, process improvement leaders. Maintains data for accuracy, consistency, and completeness of information.
  • Complete data profiling and define data transformations for use by the University. Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems. Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Ability to understand data sets across various departments in the university and develop innovative analytics solutions that can be scaled and adapted throughout the institution. Partner with continuous improvement leaders to document processes impacting data quality and to develop process improvements that will result in improved data accuracy and/or reporting.
  • Design and maintain data related Information Systems in support of the university’s data management and reporting needs
    • Develop and manage new processes which requires coordination of multiple departments (Finance Team, Associate Deans, IT, AIR, Financial Aid Office, Business Office, Registrar and HR) and data sources across the university
  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of organizational data within the Information Systems
    • Provides data summaries or statistical analysis for use in strategic planning or decision-making
    • Manage creation of new data sets and coordinate across departments
  • Creates standard and ad hoc queries and reports
    • Design and manage data sets in Tableau (calculated fields, hierarchies, groupings)
    • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports
  • The Data Analyst is responsible for helping maintain data integrity, executing data strategy, and performing advanced analysis and updates of constituent data. (S)he performs database cleanup, data formatting and accurate data entry, as well as monitoring the integrity of the information contained in various systems.
  • Oversees data integration imports to ensure accurate and timely process completion. Reviews, investigates, and closes data batches, calling attention to inefficiencies proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.

 


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a quantitative discipline. i.e., Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, Economics, Math.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel. (Example task: creating complex formulas / text to columns / using an index matches / combining multiple data sets / condition formatting / nested sum if functions / data validation).

 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of theories and principles of adult learning and organizational development including performance and change management, employee engagement and leadership development.
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced SQL an ability to create strong SQL queries
  • Must possess knowledge of data "visualization" techniques and technologies in order to provide efficient, effective, and innovative BI solutions for the university.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with databases, programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
  • Previous experience and understanding of Data projects, data design and mapping, translating business requirements
  • Strategic thinker, data-driven and analytical in approach to solving problems while exhibiting effective decision-making and excellent time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communicator; good listening skills with aptitude for tactfully challenging the norm
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Skilled in understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to synthesize data and pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Advanced skill in use and programming of the following software applications:
    • Excel (VBA, macros, advanced calculations)
    • Power Query (advanced calculations)
    • Access (build and maintain databases, calculations)
    • Tableau (build dashboards and reports, data extraction)
