Position Summary
The School of Engineering & Technology at Central Michigan University (CMU) seeks an experienced and dynamic individual for a Fixed Term position in the Engineering Technology program. This position will be a part-time, 9-month (August–May) position for teaching undergraduate courses in the engineering and engineering technology programs with a focus on the Product Design Engineering Technology program. Duties include in-person and/or online instruction, grading assigned coursework, holding regular office hours, and attending department meetings. The appointment will begin in the fall semester of 2024.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach 2-3 undergraduate courses and laboratories in Engineering Technology programs per semester. Courses include, but are not limited to Manufacturing Processes, Parametric Design and Modeling, Applied Statics, Product Design and Development, Industrial Safety, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Heat Transfer, Surface Modeling, and Advanced Surface Modeling.
  • Participate in activities related to ABET accreditation of the engineering and engineering technology programs.
  • Advise senior design project teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a related engineering or engineering technology field; ABD candidates will be considered if degree completion is assured before duties commence.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach courses and laboratories in 3D parametric computer-aided modeling tools for design and analysis.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous teaching experience in a related field at the university level.
  • Relevant industrial or government experience.
  • Professional Engineering licensure

About the Department
The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) is housed in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). SET has four undergraduate Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer and Environmental Engineering), three undergraduate Engineering Technology (Industrial, Mechanical and Product Design Engineering Technology) and a graduate (MS in Engineering) program. SET presently has 24 full-time faculty members. Courses are taught in an attractive 70,000 square foot engineering & technology building which houses more than twenty laboratories and support spaces.
