The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at Colorado State University (CSU) offers a curriculum that integrates exceptional classroom learning and in-depth engineering practice for an unparalleled educational experience. The Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory (OBRL) is an interdisciplinary group consisting of faculty from the College of Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and School of Biomedical Engineering. The Mission of the OBRL program is to improve the health, fight disease, and aid persons with disabilities through merging engineering and life/ biological sciences. The faculty have special interests in the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and neurological systems.

Position Summary
The Engineering Research Histology Technologist position will support orthopedic and musculoskeletal research within the OBRL’s histology lab. Daily operations of the histology lab may include, but are not limited to, processing tissue samples, creating microscopic tissue slides, maintaining histology lab equipment, maintaining histology lab supplies, imaging slides, and performing slide analyses. The Engineering Research Histology Technologist will maintain excellent data documentation and report writing, and will follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) within the lab at all times.
Required Job Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in a scientific discipline;
• Demonstrated competence in written communication;
• Minimum of one year of experience in a histology lab in a research or clinical setting;
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: large format undecalcified histology, decalcified histology, neurological tissue histology, experimental instrumentation, animal experimentation, GLP protocols, report writing, static histomorphometry, dynamic histomorphometry, histology slide imaging; and
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a team environment.
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Histotechnician or histotechnologist.

Essential Duties

• Process tissue samples;
• Create microscopic tissue slides;
• Image slides;
• Perform slide analyses;
• Create histologic preparations using paraffin and acrylosin embedding methods
• Perform histomorphometric analyses of histological sections;
• Maintain histology lab equipment and supplies;
• Assist with micro-computed tomography scans and analysis; and
• Other duties as assigned.
