Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is currently accepting resumes for a full-time, twelve-month, exempt position beginning July 1, 2024. The Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences offers two BS engineering degree programs: Engineering (with four specializations in Electrical, Aerospace, Computer, and Mechanical)and Biomedical Engineering. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
  • Lead recruiting activities.
  • Provide academic guidance and counseling to all Engineering students with regards to UMES Engineering program requirements on a variety of academic and administrative matters including but not limited to first-year experience advising and instruction, course selection, scheduling, pre-requisites, course substitution, transfer credits in line with ABET program accreditation.
  • Develop, prepare, and present recommendation and reports regarding student progress towards graduation.
  • Coordinate scheduling of class times, tutorial times as well as campus visitations.
  • Coordinate activities with other program areas across campus.
  • Engage in recruitment, retention, and program marketing activities.
  • Interface external customers and stakeholders to determine current needs of the program and students.
  • Provide technical guidance, supervision, and instruction during all student machine shop and /or laboratory equipment for both class and grant related activities.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Engineering Departmental Websites and Computer Labs in conjunction with the Lab Manager and UMES Webmaster and IT Departments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience in ABET accreditation, student advising, and evaluation.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Administrative, data processing, written reporting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering communications required.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of machine shop tools and engineering laboratory equipment;
  • Ability to interact with diverse audiences;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and complete projects in a timely manner.
