Engineering Physicist

Job Summary

The Physicist will provide the technical and innovative support needed to carry out research in the areas of sensor design and the development of new techniques for their assembly in current and future high energy physics experiments. This position will cover oversight of both large production projects which focus on process development and monitoring as well as smaller research projects that require custom mechanical or technical work on shorter time scales to meet the availability schedules of international collaborations and facilities.

 

This is an opportunity for such an individual to have a major impact in a highly visible international project that pushes the capabilities of current technology.

 

This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level based upon candidate's education.

 


What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:
For the Physicist position, you will need the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering  
  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience with precision mechanical engineering projects including clean room practice and contamination control, custom mechanical fixturing (including vacuum fixturing), and advanced fabrication processes (bump bonding, photolithography, 3D printing and rapid photo-typing), as well as data acquisition solutions for complex devices is required

 

For the Senior  Physicist position, you will need the following:

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering 
  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience with precision mechanical engineering projects including clean room practice and contamination control, custom mechanical fixturing (including vacuum fixturing), and advanced fabrication processes (bump bonding, photolithography, 3D printing and rapid photo-typing), as well as data acquisition solutions for complex devices is required

 

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered

 

Skills Needed:

  • Required Knowledge: Contact and non-contact metrology, vacuum systems, and CAD design
  • Required Skills: Good oral/written communication, programming, hand and machine tools, attention to detail, problem solver
  • Required Abilities: Ability to manage multiple projects at once and supervise staff
