The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) seeks a summer Engineering student with a strong interest and academic background to support a variety of engineering studies focused on conceptual design and analysis of high temperature super conducting coils for fusion reactor studies. The scope of this effort will vary to also include assisting in arranging a system to review general engineering documents collected over many years at PPPL and developing a strategy for consolidation and sorting.

Work with Engineering staff to explore novel cable design to maximize current carrying capabilities while maintaining a low fabrication cost, for cabled conductors high temperature superconductor to achieve 10-kA level, This will be used to validate its maturity for high field fusion magnet design, prototyping and testing. Develop design concepts and validate innovations that critically reduce the cost and complexity of building high-field, high current density superconducting fusion magnets that are more accessible for basic research.
