Overview
The intern will learn about vacuum systems and materials, rotating machinery, programming a stepper motor, and operating CNC mill. Research granule dropper mechanisms for use on fusion devices. A rotary dropper has been fabricated, it has trouble operating as expected, it jams, and granules get clogged in the holes. This device needs attention and help from a mechanically inclined person. The challenges are the granule drop, the bandwidth frequency, and the loading of the sub mm granules.

Responsibilities

- Cad design, fabrication of parts, testing of the unit already on the bench and modifying it for operability.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate student
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- CAD experience Solidworks, milling machine, lath, working with power tools, stepper motors and their programming, and mechanical principles.
Working Conditions
- PPPL Collaboration at General Atomics. Onsite at GA or PPPL
