The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Professional Communications Program (UPCP). 

 

We are seeking a dynamic individual who is invested in engineering education and experienced teaching technical/professional writing and presentation to university students.  This is an exceptional career opportunity for someone interested in contributing to the continuous growth and development of a discipline-specific writing program dedicated to empowering next-generation and this-generation engineering students with the communication skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.  We encourage applications from entrepreneurial-minded, results-driven individuals in technical writing, writing studies, or a related field who are looking for a non-traditional career path in an engineering-centric environment that offers intellectual, academic, and professional flexibility.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to advance the exciting and innovative work of ECE’s communication program while collaborating with the UPCP Director to deliver highly effective, engineering-specific visual and multimodal communication instruction and resources.

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position with appointment beginning in May 2017.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and Includes benefits.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


Responsibilities of the Assistant Director include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Coordinating, managing, and teaching a junior-level communication course delivered in a highly individualized, out-of-classroom, innovative format for ECE students involved in co-curricular activities
  • Evaluating/grading engineering student documentation and presentations;
  • Integrating current research, scholarship, and best practices into engineering communication instruction;
  • Managing the day-to-day operations and activities of the ECE Communication Studio;
  • Training and supervising graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate tutors;
  • Collaborating with ECE faculty to develop writing assignments;
  • Developing instructional materials for a variety of end-users;
  • Conducting interactive workshops for students and faculty;
  • Leveraging current instructional technology in classroom and online environments;
  • Coordinating events and activities designed to promote the UPCP, its services, and student success; and
  • Working independently on projects geared at program development
