Job Overview

The Engineering and Utilities Intern - in a temporary role - supports the Engineering and Utilities team and builds a pipeline for future engineers to join the Facilities team. Because there is more work during the summer due to the reduced occupancy on campus, the Intern helps to complete the required work load during this high period of activity – for example,

  • Field investigations, coordination and completion of design reviews, and construction and commissioning
  • Mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering activities
  • Measurement of utilities and energy conservation

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the implementation of energy conservation measures
  • Perform data collection and review utilities operations
  • Complete field reports on facilities and utilities issues
  • Review testing and commissioning results and recommend subsequent actions

Work Interactions

The Engineering and Utilities Intern supports the Office of Engineering and Utilities, which provides consultative support to Capital Project, as well as Facilities Maintenance and management of the Georgetown Energy Partnership.

They support day-to-day operations of the Controls Team and Fire Protection Team - assisting in maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting; working with engineers and managers on the Engineering and Utilities team to conduct site visits, complete inspections, and submit field reports; and assisting in reviewing plans and designs submitted by Capital Projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School diploma or certified equivalency
  • Current enrollment in an accredited engineering program at a college or university
