What You Will Do

The Process Modeling and Analysis Group (E-2) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking experienced engineers from a variety of disciplines to partner with other LANL staff on a diverse set of national security programs requiring the application of engineering acumen and expertise. Our group is composed of staff encompassing backgrounds in nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, systems engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and others. We provide engineering support, process simulation modeling, systematic analysis, systems/industrial engineering, process improvement, programmatic risk analysis, decision support, and integrated planning for a diverse portfolio of projects. These are all key areas that successful candidates may apply their skills to.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical knowledge – Advanced engineering experience as applied to projects spanning one or more key areas of the group (e.g. systems/industrial engineering, process simulation modeling, risk management/analysis, decision support, process improvement, integrated planning).

Technical leadership – Demonstrated experience leading analyses, design/development, or research in support of large or complex projects.

Communication – Demonstrated experience communicating both written and orally (technical writing and presentations) as well as the ability to interact with and solicit information from subject matter experts.

Analysis skills – Advanced analysis skills including compiling, interpreting, and presenting analysis results. Also, the ability to recognize and assess technical problems and develop technical options as well as the ability to translate elicited data into effective requirements and planning assumptions.

Education – Position requires a Master’s Degree in Engineering and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Systems/Industrial Engineering – Demonstrated knowledge of systems engineering/industrial engineering principles and techniques (such as requirements management, FMEA, functional diagraming, validation/verification, etc.) Experience conducting alternatives analyses, cost-benefit analyses, and so forth.

Modeling and simulation – Experience with simulation modeling concepts and discrete-event simulation software (such as ExtendSim, Simio, FlexSim, or other similar tools).

Risk analysis – Experience with risk tracking, risk management, and risk analysis techniques. Experience with cost and schedule risk analysis tools (such as Acumen Risk, or similar software).

Mentoring – Experience mentoring, training, or leading junior staff or students.

Program/Project development – Experience contributing to the development of proposals, work packages, project plans, etc.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status. .
