Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, is responsible for representing Emory University as the campus Civil Engineer performing capital project reviews related to the grading, drainage and civil site utilities; building roof and envelope integrity; and other hardscapes related to the campus.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Is responsible to provide technical and functional expertise in all civil engineering related matters. Coordinates with DeKalb County personnel and Georgia regulatory officials as appropriate for all civil matters.
  • Conducts technical on-site inspections of civil site work on all new construction and renovation projects and prepares written summaries of deficiencies.
  • Provides input to the University design guidelines related to civil,environmental and sustainability related specifications. Directs, manages and oversees the Roofing Repair and Replacement Program for Facilities Management as well as the campus building envelope program from planning through the projects completion.
  • Works with University Facility Planner, Program and Project Managers, University Architect and project owners from project planning through project completion and turnover.
  • Facilitates communication, decision making and solves problems between the project team members. Position is responsible for the stormwater master plan and management plan.
  • Provides utility master planning as needed to assure capacity of this system. Maintains campus maps of the piped and open basin systems on campus. Provides recommendations for improvements of the stormwater system.
  • Maintains a reserve list of projects with related costs for possible implementation. Investigates stormwater drainage issues and provides technical guidance for solutions to include scope of work designs for implementation.
  • In addition to stormwater utility master planning, this position is responsible for water and sanitary sewer planning. Position is responsible for planning the design and maintenance of the private campus road system.
  • Updates specific design guidelines related to roads to improve performance in heavily trafficked areas. Responsible for local, state and Federal civil and environmental regulatory issues. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program and seven years of related work experience. A working knowledge of the construction/renovation process and federal, state and local building codes is required.
  • Experience with building roof programs and project management, and building site utilities is preferred.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
