Job Description


The Engagement Manager works closely with the Associate Director of Programming, the Exhibitions Program Manager, and other Moss Arts Center staff to develop and manage educational engagement programs relating to K-12 students, building partnerships and creating opportunities for deeper engagement with the arts as a key component of the programming at the Center. The Engagement Manager is responsible for managing all day-to-day aspects of School-Time Matinee programs, on-site special programs for youth, and in-person and streamed educational programs in regional K-12 schools, and for developing resources associated with presented programs and exhibitions.

Key responsibilities include:
• Serving as liaison between educational partners and Moss Arts Center performing arts and gallery exhibitions engagement staffs
• Developing and executing educational activities that engage students K-12 while deepening their understanding of and experience with the arts
• Developing print and web-based curricular materials, assessment tools and other resources to support teachers and teaching artists in the classroom
• Engaging and communicating with artists, artists’ managers and consultants, and collaborating with them to design and produce educational materials, professional development workshops and concerts
• Managing event production in schools
• Coordinating ongoing program assessment and evaluation
• Maintaining educational partner relationships and developing new partners in the New River Valley region of SW Virginia


Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the performing arts, education, or a related field
• Experience developing public engagement with the arts
• Experience working with elementary and/or secondary school stakeholders, and/or community-based organizations and initiatives
• Demonstrated commitment to broad-based, diverse community engagement efforts
• Broad knowledge of multiple art forms
• Strong written, verbal, organization, analytical, and interpersonal skills
• Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background with and knowledge of the performing arts and/or K-12 education
• Working knowledge of and/or classroom experience with school children, and ability to assess and develop age-appropriate educational content
• Curriculum development/writing experience
• Well-developed editing and proofreading skills
• Professional experience at a presenting organization
• Experience working with artists and presenting events
• Knowledge of and interest in diverse genres of performing and visual arts
• Direct experience with community engagement efforts in the context of performing arts programming; experience in the New River Valley a plus


Salary Information

$45,000 - $52,000
