Position Overview

The College of Arts and Sciences (ASC) engagement team is a subset of the larger college Advancement team, charged with building and deepening the engagement of alumni, donors, and friends of the college. The team’s efforts are focused on strengthening the relationship of constituents to both the college and the university, moving constituents along the engagement continuum from unaware to advocacy.

The College of Arts and Sciences seeks an Engagement and Alumni Relations Consultant who will develop and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy. In partnership with college and Advancement colleagues, they will create innovative programming that highlights the distinctiveness of ASC and builds affinity between participants and college priorities. Alumni, who are a 220,000+ community of life-long learners, actively seek opportunities to deepen their relationship with the college and university. The ideal candidate will be able to recognize opportunities to share compelling content with a variety of audiences.

The Consultant must have demonstrated leadership and management skills. Overseeing a team of engagement professionals, a successful candidate will be charged with both leading the engagement strategy and directing the team’s execution. The College of Arts and Sciences engages alumni and friends through both virtual experiences and signature College events – both on campus and across the country. Along with setting experience strategy and KPI, the candidate may assist in both planning and execution. The position will also be responsible for managing and execution of all activities of the Dean’s Advisory Committee.

The Consultant must have excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to balance a wide variety of tasks and shifting priorities within a fast-paced environment. The position will also set assist in setting goals to measure constituent engagement growth.

This role requires the ability to work a flexible schedule to include pre-planned evenings, weekends and occasional travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

50% Strategy

Works with the ASC advancement team, the central advancement, and the academic departments and centers to direct strategy and create a comprehensive engagement plan. Using data- and industry trend-informed decision making, this position will work as part of a team who develops and executes engagement initiatives to inspire constituents to move from unaware to advocacy,

35% Dean’s Advisory Committee Management

Serves as the advancement team member charged with the planning, communication, and execution of all Dean’s Advisory Committee activities.

10% Management

Provides management of team members through leadership, coaching and mentorship to develop skills.  Recruits, trains, evaluates, motivates, and coaches employees of various backgrounds and identities; establishes and monitors goals, provides performance feedback and coaching, and supports professional development; completes annual performance management procedures; manages performance issues; is responsible for using independent, consistent and fair judgement in exercising authority; develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided; builds a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging amongst team members.

5% Miscellaneous

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and experience.

  • Four (4) years of experience in event planning, project management, alumni engagement or related work.

  • One (1) year of management experience.

  • Experience in higher education alumni/constituent relations.

  • Experience with program planning and administration.

  • Experience working with and managing high level volunteers/donors.

  • Familiarity with Content and Constituent Management Systems as well as other web-based communication and tracking tools.

  • Experience with digital communication and event tools, such as but not limited to: Zoom, MS Teams, Webex, etc. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus

The pay range for this job profile is $62,700 - $83,600 (min - mid). The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
