The University of New Orleans and the Audubon Nature Institute seek to fill an Endowed Chair in Tropical Animal Biodiversity
The University of New Orleans invites applications for the Doris Zemurray Stone Chair in Biodiversity. The Endowed Chair should have a dynamic and innovative research program centered on tropical animal biodiversity, with preference given to those working in Central or South America. The areas of research and taxa of interest are open, but may include invertebrate or vertebrate animal ecology, evolutionary biology, behavior, or conservation genetics/genomics.
Candidates should have credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Outstanding junior candidates (e.g., Assistant Professors with 3 or more years of experience) are encouraged to apply. Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. degree, relevant postdoctoral experience, three or more years of experience in an assistant professor position, and teaching experience, but applicants having independent, funded research are preferred. Successful candidates are expected to continue to develop a robust research program, secure extramural funds, direct graduate students, and teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UNO is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and the Department of Biological Sciences encourages candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education to apply. For information about the department, see http://biology.uno.edu/ .
This Endowed Chair, along with three other Endowed Chairs at UNO, will collaborate with the Audubon Nature Institute as part of a multi-disciplinary program of research and outreach to develop the next generation of conservation professionals. The endowments provide support for graduate students and undergraduate interns to work with the Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium, Audubon Insectarium or Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center on projects of local or regional conservation importance (including Central or South America).
Applications will be accepted electronically as a single PDF file that combines: a cover letter explaining why you’re a good fit for this position, a curriculum vitae with the contact information of three references, statement of interest with focus on collaborative research and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, teaching interests and philosophy, and a diversity statement highlighting your professional skills and career experiences that would enhance campus diversity and equity efforts.
