Job Description | Rappahannock Community College, a two-campus institution serving a rural 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, seeks applicants for EMS Adjunct Instructors for all certification levels. Instructors will need to be able to lead students in a variety of venues, including classroom, and laboratory, as well as asynchronous and synchronous online classrooms. This position requires an on-campus presence at either the Glenns or Warsaw campuses and/or the New Kent and Kilmarnock off-site locations. The College strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning and who are well connected to the communities we serve. The general responsibilities of the EMS Adjunct Instructors are the skillful and knowledgeable delivery of EMS program content to include classroom and laboratory teaching, national testing preparatory work and involvement in the placement of students in field experiences. This position reports to the EMS Program Head and to the Dean of Health Sciences. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of the equivalent of 10 workload credits in fall and spring semesters and eight workload credits in the summer term. Teaching assignments are negotiated with the Dean of Health Sciences to include campus, hours of instruction and teaching load. Day, evening and weekend teaching options may be available to accommodate the faculty’s schedule. KSA's/Required Qualifications | EMT Instruction: Virginia and/or National Registry Advanced Emergency Medical Technician designation or higher with an unencumbered license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and significant experience as a provider in a high call volume agency or equivalent experience in other agencies. Teaching experience in approved EMS program(s). Demonstrated competency in BLS and/or ALS knowledge, psychomotor skills, and affective domain evaluation. AEMT Instruction/Paramedic Instruction: Virginia and/or National Registry Paramedic designation with an unencumbered license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, American Heart Association CPR for Health Care Providers certification, and significant experience as an ALS provider in a high call volume agency or the equivalent experience in other agencies. Teaching experience in an approved EMS program(s). Demonstrated competency in ALS knowledge, psychomotor skills, and affective domain evaluation. |
Additional Considerations | Associate or bachelor’s degree in EMS or equivalent fields, VEMSES and/or NEMSES instructor designation or eligibility, and Instructor in certification courses such as ACLS, ITLS, PHTLS, PEPP, PALS, AMLS, etc. with experience teaching in programs. Teaching experience at the community college level preferred. |
