Employee Relations Specialist

Summary

Responsible for managing relationships between employees and managers, handling and resolving disputes, conducting thorough investigations into employee concerns, implementing HR policies and procedures, and providing guidance on employee related issues such as performance management and disciplinary actions. Assist with ensuring a positive work environment by fostering a culture of engagement, respect, trust and collaboration within the University. 


Essential Functions

  • Consult with University management at all levels on employee relations and labor relations topics, including progressive discipline and corrective action, employee job performance or behavior concerns, employee complaints and grievances, alternative dispute resolution, strategic management of employee or labor issues, Consult with Director as needed.
  • Conduct employee investigations; assist with remediation/prevention of workplace issues; reaches conclusions and presents findings for further action, including recommendations for proposed remediation. Draft summary of the investigation or a Report of Findings.
  • Review, administer, interpret, and provide advice/guidance, and training regarding the terms and provisions of the University's collective bargaining agreements; employee handbooks and University procedures and policies dealing with employee/labor relations matters.
  • Assist with performance management; reviewing job functions and expectations; improving employee abilities through coaching and feedback; assist with establishing behavioral patterns that align goals with the university mission, values and strategic plan.
  • Makes recommendations and provides management with reports regarding grievances, complaints, disciplinary actions, and other employee relations issues. Helps identify and analyze any employee relations issues and possible resolutions.

  • Review unemployment claim information, research employee profiles and information to complete the claim information request and collaborate with the field as needed for additional details.

  • Administers the classified staff job audit process which includes but not limited to:
    • Ensure compliance with job audit process and forms.
    • Reviewing all audits for completion before meeting with incumbent and supervisor
    • Conduct audit interviews with incumbent and supervisor; makes recommendations, etc.  
    • Assure timely processing and maintains job audit data base.
  • Researches and analyzes data pertaining to labor and employee relations. Develop and maintain Employee Relations metrics. Assist with maintaining a feedback infrastructure (process, tools, and forums) that measures and communicates employee satisfaction, engagement, morale and overall work experience.
  • Represents the University on appeals before the State Personnel Board of Review                    
  • Serve on department, division, and University committees as needed.
  • Other duties and HR initiatives as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.
The following Experience is required: 
  • 3 years of experience in Human Resources

  • 1 year of experience in Employee Relations
