Under administrative direction of the Assistant Director, Employee Assistance Program, provides professional short-term counseling services to faculty and staff and their spouses and dependents with personal, family, career/work-related, and behavioral health problems.

Essential Duties

  • Provides the core services for an internal EAP in a large urban University.
  • Performs assessment and evaluation, information and referral and crisis intervention services to clients on a regular basis.
  • Provides consultation and training to supervisors, managers and administrators.
  • Monitors progress of clients and provides feedback to both clients and administrators as needed while maintaining client's confidentiality.
  • Works closely with other employee campus services including Learning and Workforce Development, Office of University Rights and Responsibilities, and Office of General Counsel.
  • Coordinates and provides education to campus organizations and employee constituencies.
  • Coordinates insurance coverage with eligibility of participants and performs case management when appropriate.
  • Participates on relevant committees, task forces and work groups to provide the EAP perspective.
  • Develops and maintains close working relationships with community resources, health care practitioners, and university/employee health care providers.
  • Serves as liaison with department and other campus offices and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family therapy or related field AND current State of Arizona license in good standing to practice psychotherapy at the independent level by the Arizona Board of Health Examiners (AZBBHE).  One-year in crisis counseling, case management, training OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of the core services of an internal employee assistance program in higher education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of short-term counseling procedures, including assessment and evaluation, information and referral, and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of consultation and organizational development procedures and practice.
  • Experience in supervisory training and outreach.
  • Experience in coordinating health care providers and case management.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.
  • Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
  • Experience in leading by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
