Position Summary
Employee Assistance Clinician (EAC) serves as a member of the clinical team of the University Health Service (UHS). The EAC provides clinical support services for all employees of the University of Illinois at Chicago campus community. The EAC is accountable for responding to UIC employee psychosocial needs via assessment, 1:1 encounters, care planning, resource identification and follow up. Where indicated, EAC coordinates care with members of the UHS clinical team to address employee impairment via assessment, coordination of appropriate treatment, ongoing case management and support to promote successful return to work.

The EAC is accountable for coordinating and facilitating psychosocial services across the micro/mezzo/macro levels of the UIC environment continuum for UIC employees including faculty and staff. The continuum environment includes individual employees

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide short term individual counseling services/psychotherapy to UIC employees, faculty, staff and their immediate family members where appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of wellness programs targeted toward medical personnel. Topics should include stress management, work/life balance and resiliency.
  • Conduct assessments to identify presenting issues, client self-articulated goals, psychosocial risk factors and specific care needs. Create and implement a plan/approaches to address objectives and goals as identified during the assessment.
  • Identify and supply appropriate managed care and/or community resources and referrals to optimize psychosocial services.
  • Perform appropriate follow up contacts to enhance client access to care.
  • Collaborate with clinical personnel at University Health Service in conducting fitness for duty assessments.
  • Participate in case management activities for employees who require ongoing monitoring and support.
  • Provide supportive counseling to facilitate return to work for employees after long absences.
  • Conduct post critical incident support as requested by academic departments and hospital units.
  • Possesses and maintains crisis intervention skills at the micro/mezzo/macro levels of intervention
  • Consult with department managers and supervisors on matters concerning troubled employees, departmental conflict or departmental support needs.
  • Participate in campus initiatives to address social concerns including but not limited to workplace violence, domestic violence and substance abuse.
  • Develop and implement support initiatives for high-risk groups including physicians/residents, police officers and nurses.
  • Maintain professional documentation and client records.
  • Maintain utilization data and generate annual or biannual report
  • Participate in supervisory training in collaboration with Medical Center Human Resources and UIC Labor Relations.
  • Identify community resources and maintain ongoing resource database from which to provide information and referrals as appropriate.
  • Carry on-call pager alternately with other EAP staff
  • Practice in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and ethical principles.
  • Maintain professional license in active and current status. Maintain expertise through participation in continuing education programs.
  • Have working knowledge of pertinent social policies including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Victims Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and FOID reporting and mandated reporting.
  • Serve as an experienced resource and patient services facilitation reference for care team members.
  • Working knowledge of all managed care plans vended by the University of Illinois at Chicago
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology with Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or PhD prepared clinical psychologist in active status with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) certification desirable but not required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years clinical experience in a community based or ambulatory practice with a diverse patient population with EAP experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Experience and competence working in a culturally diverse environment with clients of all socio-economic levels. 
  • Must have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, PC skills to include word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, organizational and problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Superior communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community mental health providers, treatment programs, facilities, and clinicians in various practice environments.
