Definition of Class

This position assists the Emergency Management Coordinator with campus emergency preparedness, incident response, and emergency communications. The incumbent assists with monitoring and staying abreast of conditions that could impact University, faculty, staff, and students; assists University departments with creating emergency plans to prepare and respond to emergencies; provides supplemental training to personnel that may be assigned to the Emergency Operations Center.


Examples of Work Performed
  • Reviews University department’s emergency management plans annually and assists in creating new plans and operational procedures and policies as needs arise.
  • Serves as backup to the Emergency Management Coordinator for planned and unplanned events or incidents on campus.
  • Assists with maintaining the 24- hour capabilities of the Emergency Operations Center, including serving as the point-of-contact on a rotational basis with the Emergency Management Coordinator.
  • Provides support with training and exercises for the University as assigned by supervisor in an effort to evaluate emergency plans and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates program implementation and management with departments and unit managers to ensure financial and operational effectiveness.
  • Organizes Emergency Management equipment and inventory.
  • Manages the Emergency Operations Center in coordination with the Emergency Management Coordinator and provides direction to assigned personnel.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining agreements and relationships with local, state, and federal agencies for emergency related issues.
  • Troubleshoots user interface issues with multiple Emergency Management technology systems.
  • Monitors weather and makes recommendations to the Emergency Management Coordinator if the weather is likely to alter campus class schedules or events.
  • Supports the Emergency Management Coordinator with public education, outreach, and training sessions for the University community.
  • Assesses emergency preparedness and availability of appropriate technologies for emergency response.
  • Supports the Emergency Management Coordinator in identifying grant funding opportunities to enhance campus emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

  • Minimum Education/Experience

    Education:
    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
    AND
    Experience:
    Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
    Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
