About the Department
The Division of Environmental Health & Public Safety is dedicated to the reduction of risks within the NC State community, and to the promotion of safety and environmental stewardship as a value in our university culture. EHPS consists of seven departments, including Environmental Health and Safety, University Police, Risk Assessment, Transportation, Security Applications and Technology, Business and Finance Administration and Emergency Preparedness and Strategic Initiatives, each supporting a diverse portfolio of complex services and regulatory needs for campus.
Essential Job Duties
Join Our Team as an Emergency Management and Mission Continuity Manager!
This position will be reporting to the Senior Director for Emergency Preparedness and Strategic Initiatives, the position of Manager of Emergency Management and Mission Continuity (EMMC) has overall leadership responsibility for assigning and controlling the flow of work, managing operations, training and monitoring performance and hiring of employees, students and third party service providers associated with the section. The incumbent is accountable for applicable programming and additional consideration directed at all university locations and international study abroad sites and activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Emergency Management and Mission Continuity supports the institution through the development and management of emergency planning and continuity programming, to sustain campus preparations through risk assessment and ensuring institution wide capacity for emergency preparedness, incident management, resilience and recovery. The primary functional areas for the position include; EMMC operational oversight, resiliency planning, multi-disciplinary continuity and institutional emergency response.
  • The EMMC Manager collaborates with the Senior Director, EPSI, to set goals and strategic direction, and provides leadership for developing and implementing programming. This position will oversee the development, implementation and revision of required university plans, as required by university regulations.
  • EMMC manager leads plan revisions, reporting and programming metrics in support of the Emergency Preparedness and Mission Continuity Steering Committee and various divisional operational teams, standing committees and advisory groups.
  • This is a broad scope management level position that has substantial independent judgment and decision making authority. The position has authority to make informed decisions on highly complex issues, which have significant impact on unit operations and may have broad campus impact.
  • EMMC Manager directly supervises full time staff, part time student employees and contract services associated with the program. Additionally, the incumbent supervises performance and completion of tasks, collates information and performs trend analysis, for program efficiency and efficacy modeling.
  • The EMMC Manager serves on relevant university and system committees and councils, as well as special project appointments.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience; or Master’s Degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Substantial experience in leading, developing and managing complex organizations with a diverse workforce and substantially broad scope of programs and services.
  • Demonstrated experience working in crisis leadership and incident response.
  • Demonstrated experience managing personnel and diverse programming associated with teams.
  • Ability to independently, quickly, and efficiently identify and solve problems that can impact a large number of customers.
  • Ability to utilize sound judgment, discretion, and prudent exercise of authority in handling sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Excellent skills and abilities to set priorities, complete multiple and complex projects under pressure, independently and/or cooperatively with others.
  • Proven experience in leading organizational change and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish partnerships across a wide and diverse range of stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to combine strong functional knowledge with a strong understanding of customer requirements to offer customer solutions to problems in a very practical, timely and efficient manner. Customer service skills are critical.
  • Demonstrated training and expertise in an environmental health and safety discipline or disciplines.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with diverse teams, strong leadership talents and ability to vision.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire, must be maintained.
