The Advanced Radar Research Center’s Embedded Software Engineer designs, integrates, and tests software across multiple platforms utilizing a variety of languages for radar products. As a crucial member of the engineering team, this individual will support embedded software, firmware, and hardware evaluation. This position supports numerous projects at varying stages of lifecycle development and requires a person who is driven to excel in a hands-on design, integration, and testing environment while collaborating with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals.

Typical Functions May Include:

  • Designs and implements embedded software architecture for radar/equipment monitoring and control.
  • Evaluates embedded software/firmware/hardware (FPGAs, etc.) and design.
  • Codes, debugs, and tests system software. 
  • Performs embedded software and multi-platform software implementation.
  • Provides technical support for data communication/acquisition/control systems and experiments.
  • Provides consulting to system-level designs, including costing, lead times, and alternative solutions. 
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree, AND: 

  • 36 months of embedded software experience 

 Equivalency/Substitution:  Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree for a total of 84 months of related experience.

Physical Requirement: Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively.  Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods; ability to communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others; ability to use a computer daily.
 
Department Preferences:

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent military/work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with the programming/simulating/debugging of embedded devices (FPGAs, etc.) using VHDL and C
  • Proficiency in the integration of embedded hardware systems and experience with the low-level protocols necessary to facilitate intercommunication between such systems
  • Experience with radars and associated technologies, familiar with radar concepts such as RF/IF transceivers, microwave subsystems and control systems
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment operation, including spectrum/network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and function/waveform generators
  • Analog/digital circuit/system design, simulation, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with Labview, Python, Matlab, and other high-level languages
