Essential Job Duties
This career opportunity position performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting/repair of nonwovens lab, production and testing equipment for The Nonwovens Institute. Candidates will receive needed training on the job.
Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Performing a variety of electronics tasks related to installation, maintenance, and repair of nonwoven making and testing equipment. This work will also include tasks related to the mechanical systems on the nonwoven equipment. Thus, responsibilities include calibrations, maintenance, and repairs of complex nonwovens systems (including control systems). In addition, responsibilities can extend (commensurate with experience) to design and installation of specialized systems.
  • Applying NWI safe work practices, good manufacturing practices, and ISO 9001 practices while working with electrical systems and rotating equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems (both complex and simple) in The Nonwovens Institute Labs related to nonwovens electromechanical systems.
  • Define and organize a Preventive Maintenance Program for all NWI Labs and work together with Lab personnel to implement the program.
  • Work with machine vendors, and the NWI Team, to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Maintain records of maintenance and repair, and any design and modification plans.
  • Procure and maintain inventories of any needed electronic and mechanical supplies needed for maintenance.
  • Reading and understanding schematics and wiring diagrams and maintenance manuals of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Installing equipment meeting all electrical requirements. Modifying equipment to suit new process requirements.
  • Recording and documenting procedures used in completing key tasks as part of Standard Operating Procedures.

This position requires the development of expertise related to nonwovens process and test equipment. All duties will be performed with attention given to working within university policies and regulations, to working with other university departments such as facility maintenance and EH&S. NWI will provide needed training.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education

Associate’s Degree in Electronics; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Ability to learn the specific requirements of this position via on-the-job training.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety standards.
  • Capable to understand up to 600V 3 phase power systems, AC motor control, industrial controls to the I/O level, power transmission, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply safe work practices while working with dangerous electrical systems and rotating equipment.
  • Be self-directed and a self-starter.
  • Able to perform basic math, have good written and verbal communication skills, and be proficient in using a computer.
  • Competent in maintenance using hand and power tools.
  • Good communication skills & Commitment to safety standards.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds when needed with reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within a pilot or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in working with both electric and mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Nonwovens experience is useful but you can learn nonwovens equipment and systems on the job. Expert training is available.
  • Training in Electronics and Mechanical systems.
Required License or Certification
  • Forklift license required within first 90 days of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license is required by date of hire with a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days.
  • Licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.
