Position Overview

The Center for Remote Sensing and Integrated Systems (CReSIS) at the University of Kansas invites applications for an Electronics Lab Technician to work with faculty, staff, and students to support construction of radar components and avionics and wiring for unmanned aircraft and/or satellites.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment.


Job Description

75% Perform unsupervised fabrication processes/procedures including: Soldering, assembling, wiring, basic testing, and repairing of electronic circuit boards, wire harnesses, and electronic modules and/or sub-assemblies, radar components, and avionics for unmanned aircraft and/or satellites.

10% Train graduate and undergraduate students in soldering and assembly of radar chassis, wire harnesses, and associated components.

10% Lab Management: Assists in packing for field deployments, monitoring and ordering of common lab equipment and supplies, supervising and maintaining organized laboratory spaces.

5% Other duties as assigned – This job description is designed to indicate the general nature and level of work for this position and is not intended to provide a comprehensive inventory of all duties that may be required.


Position Requirements

  • This position is required to work on-site. Work will occur in Nichols, Learned, and the Garrison Flight Research Center.

Required Qualifications

  • High school/GED and one year related experience or Associate's degree.
  • At least one year of experience soldering (including surface mount components) and assembling electronic components and systems (experience with radar and avionics systems is a plus).
  • Experience in reading schematic diagrams, preparing bills of materials, and assembling circuit boards as well as making wire harnesses for electronic systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting own work.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

  • Supervisory experience
  • Professional Electronics Technology certification (ISO 9000, 5S, IPC)
