Position Summary
Supports research needs of users by serving as the first point of contact for reporting e-resource access problems. Helps to educate users about appropriate use of licensed electronic resources. Maintains various electronic resource platforms, including proxy server.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Updates and maintains resource information on proxy server, ensuring continued access; supports resource integrations with discovery platforms, such as Primo, Third Iron products and OCLC WorldCat Discovery; follows up with vendors as appropriate.   
  • Provides support in response to user queries concerning access to electronic resources. Monitors unit email account and library trouble ticket systems; communicates with users, subject librarians, and vendors as appropriate to resolve access problems; documents problems in knowledgebase for future reference. Helps to educate users about appropriate use of licensed electronic resources. 
  • Serves as administrator for vendor platforms in order to manage content. Helps to notify and educate users about changed interfaces and new features.
  • Manages the collecting, compiling, and retention of e-resource use statistics to inform routine and strategic decision-making related to resource allocation for collection development and management, ensuring that the data is valid, relevant, and timely.
  • Assists with trial requests and activation. Works with vendors to test and establish access to new electronic resources.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including documentation and maintenance of departmental statistics and procedures, and participation in library-wide and staff development activities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the information needs of a research library in a digital environment.
  • Experience working with library vendors.
  • Familiarity with library vendor platforms and modes of online access.
  • Internal or external customer service experience.
  • Experience in an academic library.
  • Experience with electronic resources.
  • Experience with integrated library systems.  
  • Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces, Sierra system desirable.
  • Database management experience.
  • Proxy server management experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of electronic resources usage statistics.
  • Working knowledge of one or more Western European languages.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adjust priorities; good judgement and decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a decentralized and changing environment.


Required Qualifications

Bachelorâ™s degree in humanities, social sciences or related field or minimum of four years of experience in technical services in a public, academic or special library setting.

Salary Range
$18.91 - $29.32 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
