Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Supervising electrician, performs journey level electrical installations, maintenance and repair within the buildings, grounds and structures of the University and other related duties as required. 


Key Responsibilities
  • Assembles, installs, maintains and Repairs electric lights, motors, heaters.  Consults and works with other trade persons. Makes rough sketches and estimates the cost of minor electrical installations. Keeps records and makes report.
  • Uses knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment of the trade in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, building codes and safety orders in daily performance of duties.
  • Performs High Voltage Maintenance on Transformers, switchboards.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of National and California Electrical Codes. Ability to read, interpret and work from plans and drawings. General knowledge of electrical tools and safety practices. General knowledge of electrical installation and maintenance. Ability to direct work of unskilled helpers. Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic functions. Physical strength to perform work assignments that  require  lifting/carrying  (50  lbs. without assistance and up to 1OOlbs. with assistance), standing, climbing, crawling and walking required. Ability to learn and use a   sophisticated computerized work system at a level commensurate with the position. Solid work history with emphasis on personal integrity.  F

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a high school diploma and journey-level Electrician skills similar to that acquired through the completion of an Electrician apprenticeship program required. Valid California driver's license. Proof of California State Electrical Certification strongly preferred

Compensation

The salary range for this classification is $5,742to $7,414 per month.

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
