Position Summary

SDSU Facilities Services is a customer service based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.  Facilities Services employs over 220 employees (full time and students) and supports approximately eight million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land with an operating budget of approximately forty-five million dollars.

This position as an Electrician performs the full range of skilled electrical work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems (transformers, main switchgear, electrical distribution panels, motor control centers, relays, heating and ventilation, etc.). The Electrician inspects isolates, troubleshoots and repairs electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.  Incumbent maintains and repairs master clock systems, interior light fixtures (in classrooms, labs, offices, restrooms, corridors, stairwells, etc.) and exterior lighting systems (series street lighting, walkway lighting, etc.).  Plans the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

A combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program.

Licenses Required

California Driver’s License is required within 10 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a higher education, commercial, industrial, military or a large multi-building facility maintenance environment.
  • Completion of journey-level training and apprenticeship; typically 8,000 hours of combined field and classroom instruction, or other equivalent credentialed training.
  • California C10 Electrician’s Contractors 
  • California General Electricians Certification 

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,975 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,742 - $7,414 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
