Job Summary
 
Supervises, coordinates, and participates in the installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service, and repair of Housing and Residence Life's electrical systems including surveillance camera equipment and recording devices and on-line/off-line door lock hardware.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Supervises and participates in the operation, installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems to include electrical equipment such as wire, conduit, switches, outlets, junction boxes, motors, appliances, lighting equipment, thermostats, and security and safety devices
  • Interprets blueprints, manufacturers’ suggestions, and written and verbal instructions related to electrical systems.  Makes recommendations for long and short term upgrades to electrical systems.
  • Advises design team on future housing construction projects regarding electrical system installation, maintenance, and upkeep.
  • Performs routine inspections of all electrical systems and initiates action for the repair and maintenance.  Installs, connects, and tests electrical fixtures such as appliances, lighting equipment, junction boxes, door security systems, etc.
  • Maintains records and equipment data and prepares preventive maintenance recommendations. Requisitions materials, supplies, and equipment and maintains inventory for stock items
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in a timely, fair, and objective manner and in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws and performs other duties as assigned..

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    Community College, Trade or Technical school certificate, degree or diploma in electrician, electrical repair, or other related field and four years related experience and/or training with basic electrical repairs and/or electronic lock systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.
    • Knowledge of transporting property techniques and procedures, and the use of transporting materials, tools, and equipment.
    • Knowledge of asset inventory policies and procedures.
    • Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others while monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
    • Utilize conduit benders, hammer drills, electric drills, electric saws, electrician hand tools, hydraulic bucket truck, multi-meters, cable meters, and University vehicle.Also use standard hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
    • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
    • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
    • Basic knowledge and skill of maneuvering within a Microsoft Windows environment and within software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Basic knowledge and skill on Internet browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Basic knowledge and skill of using email.

    Preferred Qualifications  
    Prefer 5 years of work experience in similar or related field of work, familiarity with computer based time clock and familiarity with maintenance work order systems.
