Job Summary
  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a High Voltage Electrician Lead to join our team. The primary function of this position is to perform operating and maintenance work on high voltage distribution systems. This position also includes light construction and the day to day repair, maintenance and installation of the university electrical system and other related components.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician OR full journey status as an electrician in a union; OR four years’ applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Requires a Washington State 01 journeyman electrician license
  • Two years working with 2,000 volt or higher electrical equipment at full journey level status..or Equivalent education/experience
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience establishing / maintaining transformer and power distribution/transmission cables maintenance program
  • Able to show experience with programmable over-current relays

    Responsibility / Duty
    The primary function of this position is to perform operating and maintenance work on high voltage distribution systems. This position also includes light construction and the day-to-day repair, maintenance and installation of the university electrical system and other related components.
    The primary duties required for this position include:
    1. Perform journey level electrical installation and maintenance as directed. Troubleshoot, maintain, operate, and repair underground distribution systems, including voltage transformers, switches, circuit breakers, and other related equipment and apparatus;
    2. Prepare high voltage systems to be worked on by contractors, including de-energizing high voltage equipment, installing protective grounds, issuing line clearances, and monitoring procedures utilized by contractors;
    3. Conduct a preventative maintenance program on transformers and switchgear.
    4. Install, connect, operate, and maintain a variety of electrical equipment including power distribution systems, portable engine generators, transformers and switches, and street lighting.
    5. Provide accurate daily documentation of work completed. This documentation is to include parts used, prices for parts used, and time spent on projects or demand work orders.
    6. Adhere to all University and shop policies applicable. Report to work and be ready at start of shift. Take all breaks at the assigned times when possible and adhere to the applicable start and stop times.
    7. Represent the shop, department, and University in a professional manner during all interactions with the campus community (students, staff and other trades).
    8. Communicate with shop and department supervision effectively relating to shop and department needs and other items of interest. Perform all work in compliance with all applicable electrical codes. Comply with all applicable safety, department, and University policies rules and standards.

    This position also performs the following duties of a journeyman electrician as time allows.
    · Perform maintenance, repair and related testing of Fire Alarm and. Security systems. Perform maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment, and other University electrical equipment.
    · Light construction including but not limited to, relocation and installation of branch circuits for lighting and general-purpose power, installation of branch circuit panels, connection of services for concerts, A./V production trailers.
    Additional Duties
    1. Assist in organization of materials and shop equipment. Assist with shop clean up, and participate with efforts to keep the shop neat, organized and in an orderly fashion.
    2. Participate in shop meetings with input on operational issues that may enhance the performance of the shop and department.
    3. Perform related duties as directed.
