Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2, 240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.

Essential Job Duties

To assess all Electrical systems operation and condition for our Facility Condition Assessment program at NC State University. Position will report all findings in writing including the system condition, deficiencies, renewal cost and life expectancy.
Position will inspect, assess, and prepare reports on institutional building electrical systems such as electrical distribution systems and local building switch gear. Additional knowledge in mechanical systems, fire life and safety, and vertical transportation systems operation and the ability to generate cost estimates in each field. The position also will be required to have the ability to work as a project manager when the need arises and also schedule and plan projects with the construction shop supervisor when needed. This position will require the applicant to be able to multitask within the many FCAP team areas. Also to be ready to perform any request required by FCAP Manager as needed.
Position requires the ability to record and communicate findings in report form using Microsoft word, Excel spreadsheets and proprietary condition assessment database software.

Minimum Experience/Education

Associate’s Degree in the assigned discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require certification. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Departmental Required Skills

Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.

Must be physically able to inspect areas that require climbing on ladders and bending to reach low areas.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

5 to 10 years of working with institutional building systems and the governing standards and codes.
Associates degree and or mechanical trade license.
Operation and development of cost estimates for system renewal.
Electrical license a plus .
Experience in database management, construction cost estimates, and project management.

Required License or Certification

Valid DL.
Must have valid North Carolina driver’s license
within 60 days of start date and must be maintained.
